Seth Sommerville
CEO
Seth grew up in rural Southwest Missouri. At an early age his animal interests had him working at an exotic animal ranch near his home. At the age of 16, he began working part-time through High School on a 120 cow Dairy. Milking, feeding, inseminating and managing health for the herd gave him his start in the Dairy Industry. Tough dairy economy led him to leave the farm in 1995 where he took a job in Springfield, MO as Shift Supervisor at an ice manufacturing plant. Three and a half years later, his passion for dairy cows sent him to Northern Missouri to manage another small Dairy herd. His desire to work on a large operation and limited growth potential in the state of Missouri had him looking elsewhere or opportunities. In 2002, he joined a large calf ranch in De Pere, WI as the Heifer Manager where he gained his large herd experience. In 2006, Seth met a Wisconsin group that started a Dairy heifer grow lot in Northern Colorado, called The Heifer Authority, LLC. After meeting with the THA group and a trip to their CO facility, Seth and Sara and their three kids, Ashton, Chad and Maycie, moved from Wisconsin to manage the new Colorado lot. Seth joined THA partnership 5 years later. Watching THA grow from 600 head in 2006 to the 7500 head that we have here today has been a rewarding experience. He enjoys teaching and training employees, and watching their skills and interests develop. Other areas of occupational interest include: Operational Efficiency through facility design, Low stress animal handling systems, and disease prevention/control. Seth looks forward to using the knowledge he has gained over the past 25 years in the industry to continue growing THA as a company and providing clients with exceptional Dairy Replacement heifers.
